Dr. Mutahar Ahmed is the Director of the Center for Bladder Cancer at Hackensack University Medical Center and Professor of Urology at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. He also leads the Robotic Oncology Urological Fellowship at New Jersey Urology, now part of Íøºì³Ô¹Ï, where he trains future leaders in advanced robotic surgery. A founding member of New Jersey Urology, Dr. Ahmed has played a key role in shaping one of the largest and most advanced urology practices in the country.

Dr. Ahmed specializes in urologic oncology, robotic and laparoscopic surgery, and complex urological reconstruction, with a focus on cancers of the prostate, bladder, and kidney. He was among the first in the Northeast to perform robotic radical cystectomy with complete intracorporeal neobladder reconstruction, as well as robotic partial nephrectomy and sacrocolpopexy.

With over 5,000 robotic procedures performed—including more than 1,500 single-port (SP) cases—Dr. Ahmed is recognized as one of the most experienced SP robotic surgeons in the world. He also co-directs the National Single-Port Robotic Symposium, hosted annually at Hackensack University Medical Center for chief residents and fellows nationwide.

Since 2013, Dr. Ahmed has traveled to Bangladesh twice a year, where he has been instrumental in developing minimally invasive urological surgery programs and training local urologists to expand their skill set—significantly advancing urologic care in the region. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the title of Honorary Professor by Bangladesh Medical University in Dhaka.

Dr. Ahmed has played a pivotal role in helping Hackensack University Medical Center’s Department of Urology become one of the top-ranked programs in the country, recognized nationally for clinical excellence and innovation in urologic care.

A nationally recognized academic and thought leader, Dr. Ahmed has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented at leading national and international conferences. He has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor, New York Magazine Top Doctor, and New Jersey Monthly Top Doctor for over 15 consecutive years, among many other honors.
